DeskTap Support

Version: DeskTap 1.0.0
Policy: Version 1.1 · Effective August 13, 2026
Supplier: Goussi, trading as GridWave DSP
Support: contact@gridwavedsp.com

For purchase-policy routing, Version 1.1 applies when the transaction completed at or after the recorded Version 1.1 activation time and the order stores desktap_eula_v1_1_acceptance = true, regardless of Checkout Session creation time. Purchases completed earlier, or with missing or ambiguous assent, retain Version 1.0 or the term more favorable to the customer.

Supported environment

DeskTap requires a MacBook with an M1 Pro chip or newer running macOS 14.6 or later. The recorded hands-on configuration is MacBook Pro (M1 Pro) on macOS 26.5.2, using built-in speakers at 48 kHz with a 256- or 512-sample buffer. Other combinations in the declared range have not all received an individual hands-on test; use the trial on your exact Mac before purchase.

Bluetooth output, external audio interfaces, 44.1 or 96 kHz and a 128-sample buffer are not supported in this release. Wired headphones may work, but their latency has not been measured. A stable macOS update is not automatically outside the support range while macOS 14.6 or later remains advertised.

Getting started

  1. Place the MacBook securely on a stable, flat and dry surface.
  2. Launch DeskTap and read the first-run safety and privacy guide.
  3. Choose one of the nine included packs from Sample Pack.
  4. Press Calibrate, remain still during background capture, then complete five cycles of Light, Medium and Firm taps. Firm means the upper end of your normal range—not excessive force. Use only a light, controlled bare-fingertip tap when tapping the MacBook directly.
  5. Press Apply when calibration succeeds. Applying a valid calibration turns Power on automatically.

Stop ends sounds that are playing or pending without changing Power. If Guard turns Power off after very rapid repeated output, lower the speaker volume and turn Power on again.

Trial and licence

The three-day trial starts only after you confirm Start trial & Power on and DeskTap completes its first successful Power On. It includes all nine built-in packs, with up to 100 actually audible outputs per pack. Custom sample loading requires activation.

The evaluation does not load or play custom samples. Review the formats and limits below before purchase. A failure of an advertised paid custom-sample function is assessed under the Refund Policy and is not treated as something the evaluation already proved.

Activation requires the Polar purchase email, the complete Polar licence key and internet access. One Mac can be active at a time. A successful validation allows up to 72 hours of offline use measured from that validation. Deactivate the current Mac from the Polar customer portal before moving the licence to another Mac; device deactivation for transfer is not a refund or revocation.

Custom sample packs

Activated users can load one folder containing 1–78 supported top-level audio files or one .desktappack. Supported formats are WAV, AIFF/AIF, FLAC, MP3 and M4A. DeskTap checks the whole pack before replacing the current pack and never modifies source files.

Pack limits are 10 seconds per sample, 240 seconds total, 16 MB per source file, 192 MB total folder source audio, 128 MB per .desktappack and 128 MB normalized audio in memory. Sources must be mono or stereo at 8–96 kHz. WAV/AIFF must be 16-, 24- or 32-bit.

Troubleshooting

Symptom What to try
Sensor failed, not found or unavailable Close other DeskTap instances, press Retry sensor, relaunch, then check the supported environment
Sensor stalled after sleep Press Retry sensor, then turn Power on again
Calibration fails Keep the desk still, remove vibration sources and retry with clear but controlled taps
No sound Check Power, Volume, audio device, trial/licence status and Guard
Unwanted sounds Lower Sensitivity or turn Power off while typing or moving objects
Missed taps Raise Sensitivity slightly or recalibrate at your normal playing range
Detection changed after moving Recalibrate for the new desk or placement

A sensor error describes DeskTap’s inability to use the motion stream at that time. It does not identify the cause and is not proof by itself of a hardware or motion-sensor fault. Possible causes include access or ownership, another app or DeskTap instance, driver or operating-system behavior, or hardware.

Reporting a problem

Include the DeskTap version and build shown in About, Mac model, macOS version, desk material and placement, audio settings, calibration state and concise reproduction steps. A recording, screenshot, video or log is optional unless it is reasonably needed; if you cannot provide one, ask for an alternative.

Use an authenticated Polar customer route or complete verification through the purchase email account. An order reference locates the transaction but is not requester authentication. Never post or send the complete licence key through ordinary email.

Refund help

GridWave DSP does not offer a voluntary refund for a request based only on change of mind after purchase. This is not an unconditional no refunds rule and does not limit qualifying product-issue remedies, mandatory consumer rights, Polar remedies or card-network rights.

If an advertised function of the purchased DeskTap product is materially unavailable on the official DeskTap 1.0.0 build and a configuration represented as supported for your purchase, we will investigate with reasonable and proportionate troubleshooting. Intermittent problems may qualify when the available evidence reasonably confirms them. If the issue qualifies under the linked Refund Policy, no applicable voluntary exclusion is established, and the function cannot be restored within a reasonable time without significant inconvenience, we will arrange a refund through Polar.

Voluntary exclusions depend on the facts and do not limit mandatory consumer rights. A hardware exclusion requires evidence independent of DeskTap showing that the fault is the sole material cause. See the Refund Policy Version 1.1 for eligibility, exclusions, authentication and post-refund access behavior.
